Ashley Clark: Summer Internship in NYC
September 12, 2008
My summer internship at International Print Center New York was an amazing experience offering a chance to expand my knowledge of the present art world; and view the process of operation at a non-profit art organization. I knew I would learn a variety of new things, especially since I did not have a background in the print medium, but I had no idea I would learn as much as I did. I was able to participate in many events; such as the Spring Benefit honoring Ed Ruscha, New Prints Spring 2008 opening at the New York School of Interior Design; as well as planned trips to tour Phillips de Pury and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. IPCNY is located in the Chelsea Arts District amidst approximately 380 art galleries and it was wonderful to be able to spend a portion of my lunch break visiting and exploring these works on display. It was somewhat overwhelming to visit so many exhibitions and see the variety of shows each gallery and museum had installed. The city also offers the opportunity for display of public art works and this summer, both Chris Burden and Olafur Eliasson contributed. I enjoyed getting a taste of what it’s like to be in the center of the art world for the summer and hope to return to the wonderful city of New York.
Ashley Clark is currently a Visual Arts junior at CCU. Find out more about the International Print Center New York at ipcny.org.
